Long Description
Playa Grande Baula National Park is one of Costa Rica's most popular beaches among expads and ticos alike, as it is known as one of the absolute best surfing beaches in Central America. It's also famous as a Leatherback Turtle nesting area where the Leatherback Turtle Museum and Research Center offers night tours. Due to being located inside of a National Park, the beach is protected for the nesting of the Giant Leatherback Sea Turtles from October through April. The beach is open year around during the day, but during nesting season, you are required to be with a tour guide to be on the beach after dark.
More surf shops and a many more restaurants are just north of Playa Grande going toward Tamarindo, which a water taxi or ferry can get you there in 5-10 min. This area is one Costa Rica's most popular tourist beaches with lots of entertainment, dining, activities, banking and souvenir, surf, cloth, and hardware shopping.
