Atenas is in the province of Alajuela on the western edge of Costa Rica’s Central Valley. Its name comes from Athens, the city in Greece, due only to the town founder’s interest with Greek culture. The town is located in a rich agricultural area surrounded by mountains and coffee plantations, which hosts a weekly farmer’s market.

The Town Center, at the heart of Atenas, features an amazing white church and a quaint public park filled with palm trees and teaming with social activity which is quite typical of these quaint towns. The town center is the place for family, friends and lovers visitors and locals to meet and enjoy an coffee or ice cream or simply take in the local life in the warm afternoons or cool evenings. Wild life is all around you such as green parrots and the occasional toucan make their presence known in the palm trees above.
