Often referred to as "The Fruit Town" of Costa Rica's Central Valley region, Orotina is located just off the main highway from San Jose to the Central Pacific beaches. From this location, it's only a short drive to the Pacific beaches, and still close to the shopping, nightlife and healthcare in the heart of the Central Valley.
Exiting the new highway, you will meander through the mountains on scenic, winding roads through charming towns and villages and Orotina is quite typical of such towns. The town culture is buoyed by the agriculture industry and the town center with it’s central park, shops and services and weekly farmer’s markets are most charming. A fruit festival held in town ever March when the town comes alive with ticos from all over Costa Rica sell their fruits and vegetables, with concerts and activities for kids for all to enjoy.
