Geographic Regions in Costa Rica
Unofficially, Costa Rica is known to have 6 distinctive geographic regions as it relates to real estate. These are the most viable real estate regions in the country, each offering it's own unique ecology, topography, climate & lifestyle. For instance, those looking for year-round spring-like weather might consider the Central Valley more than the North Pacific which can get tropically hot and humid. Nature enthusiasts might venture to the South Pacific where the thick, green, tropical landscape is home to the most diverse ecology you find anywhere. The 7 Provinces of Costa Rica
Officially, Costa Rica is split up into 7 distinct provinces, each with their own predominant character, culture, climate and ecology. But because of the large size of these provinces, combined with Costa Rica's amazing topographical diversity, it's hard to typify any province with 1 specific characteristic or lifestyle. For instance, in the San Jose province, most areas enjoy spring-like weather year round. Yet, up in the mountains that surround the Central Valley, temperatures can be outright chilly. Then there's the North Pacific that has a very distinct and very dry season from January through April. But then not even a half day's drive south, you'll find it's very green and tropical year-round.
